Yes, that's right. At one time a 560MB hard drive cost $249. We recently produced a tribute video for SanDisk founder Eli Harari. While researching and unearthing old VHS tapes from the 90s we came across this ad for Fry's Electronics.
It's funny, because one of the SanDisk engineers mentioned that in the early 90's they thought it would be like hitting the "big time" if their new solid state PCMCIA storage cards made it to the shelves in Fry's. Of course, now SanDisk is in over 240,000 store fronts worldwide and is synonomous with flash storage for cameras, phones and computers. But once upon a time things were very, very different.
