Kick off your summer with homemade ice cream. It used to be kind of a pain to make ice cream at home with ice, salt and perfect mixing and timing of ingredients. The Cuisinart Ice 21 is dead simple to use, under fifty bucks and won’t take up as much space as a break maker once the novelty wears off.
The Ice 21 has a double insulated bowl that you keep in the freezer. When it’s time to make ice cream, just dump in the ingredients and let it rip. As promised, in twenty minutes you’ll have ice cream that approaches the consistency of gelato. For firmer ice cream you pop it in the freezer for a while.
We were perfectly happy with the 20 minute ice cream. We added some fresh cherries to the mix for the last 5 minutes of the process and it worked perfectly. You can pretty much add whatever you want as long as it doesn’t bog down the motor. Fruits and nuts are pretty safe bets.
The Ice 21 makes enough fresh ice cream for about 5-6 people. If you make it with heavy cream it’s very rich and satisfying in smaller amounts as well.
For $50 the Ice 21 is certainly worth the novelty of homemade ice cream. And besides doesn’t your bread maker deserve a playmate in the garage?
