The KitchenAid 5-Speed Blender 56-Ounce Polycarbonate Pitcher Review
- Category: Appliances
At 3 am in the morning during an all night edit session nothing hits the spot like a good smoothie. The KitchenAid 5-Speed Blender with 56-Ounce Polycarbonate Pitcher is an excellent blender with a great dishwasher friendly design. Right out of the box, rinse it out, plug it in and go.
We jumped right in by making a smoothie featuring apples, frozen berries, bananas, ice, milk, protein powder, peanut butter. Just tossed it all in and let it rip. The blender is whisper quiet but it’s not obnoxious either. You can still hear the TV in the same room while it’s running. The smoothie was just that with just a bit of texture from the crunchy peanut butter.
We really like the heft of the motor and base unit of this design. The controls work great and the base unit does not slide around the counter top. It may be a bit heavy if you store your blender above the fridge or something like that but for the most part we prefer our motors on the heavy side.
We were a bit leery of the plastic pitcher because in our experience nothing is truly dishwasher safe. However, we’ve got to say after repeated washings on the bottom rack right above the heating element and on the hottest possible settings this pitcher is holding up just fine.
KitchenAid says the 56-ounce one-piece pitcher is commercial grade and is scratch, stain and shatter resistant. So far, we’re impressed. It’s easy to fill and easy to poor. We were skeptics of the plastic at first but love the light weight design now and probably will opt out of glass in the future.
So if you’re in the market. This 5-speed KitchenAid monster is worth checking out and you can probably find in the $80-$100 range. We think it’s a good choice for an everyday blender.
