The Pepper Plant - California Original Style PDF E-mail
Food - Food

The Pepper Plant’s California Original Style is the ultimate hot pepper sauce for eggs. It’s great on just about anything that needs a little extra kick. It’s got the full bodied flavor of the peppers and a little heat but it won’t overwhelm you. It’s just really, really tasty. Sorry Tabasco...it was a good run.

The Pepper Plant products are local favorites and often seen in breakfast joints around northern California. But lately we’ve been seeing more products on grocery store shelves which is great news because you may be able to buy it locally where you live.

Currently it goes for $11 on Amazon. Or you can buy a 12 pack directly for $45. So if you can’t find it locally, let your fingers do the shopping and treat yourself to some kick ass hot sauce courtesy of Blossom Valley foods in Gilroy, California.

Visit Blossom Valley Foods for more information and to check out other flavors.

Butterfield's Apple Pancake and Great Spring Training Breakfast in Scottsdale, Arizona PDF E-mail

Here at funkyfresh we’ve reversed engineered the famous apple pancake by the Original Pancake house. In fact, it’s one of the primary search terms that bring visitors to funkyfresh. Our recipe is awesome and you should definitely try it.

However, to be honest, breakfast is one of those meals that we simply enjoy more eating at a restaurant. Fresh squeezed OJ, thick bacon, non-stop coffee, people watching, your favorite wait staff, it’s hard to beat breakfast out at a good restaurant.

If you’re in Scottsdale, Arizona, and who knows maybe you’re at Spring Training right now, you’ve got to treat yourself to breakfast at Butterfield’s. This place is just like an Original Pancake House. If fact, we might even like it a little better. It’s big but still cozy, everyone is friendly and the menu is very tasty.

Everywhere we go the Apple Pancake is done a little differently. Our favorite stops are the Pancake Pantry in Sterling Heights, Michigan, the Original Pancake House in Beaverton, Oregon, and now Butterfield’s in Scottsdale, Arizona.

So, kick off your Spring Training day with a killer breakfast. Just sing…baseball, hot dogs, apple pancakes and Chevrolet. After eating at Butterfield’s you’ll be changing your tune about what a great breakfast is. Update: on our most recent visit in 2012 the staff informed us that they have discontinued making the apple pancake. That was a bad day.

Visit Butterfields to check out the menu. Awesome!

Fat Tuesday, Where can I get a Paczki? PDF E-mail
Food - Food
Tuesday, 08 March 2011 00:00
There's Just Not Enough Calories in Regular Donuts. I need a paczki and I need one bad. They are the tastiest treats on the planet and you can only get them once a year. Any city with a large Polish population is bound to have paczki. I've stumbled upon the occasional Polish deli in Northern California but no paczki, pronounced "poonchkey". This state has practically any kind of food you can imagine but no paczki!

Think of your favorite donut but 10x tastier. They're that good. Usually filled to overflowing with custard or various flavors they are the heaviest, tastiest doughy piece of heaven you will ever have. It's a homemade recipe mass produced once a year. You'll find them at the bakeries in Hamtramck Michigan. But other bakeries in the Detroit area do a pretty good job too.

If anyone knows where I can find authentic Paczki in the state of California please let us know. In the meantime if you need to score an ultra tasty poppyseed roll look no further than Calumet Bakery.  Very good stuff and they ship in custom made boxes anywhere in the US. They do paczki too but that's something you have to eat fresh.  They don't ship well.   We know from experience.
