Funkyfresh was launched by Rick Spence in 1996 as a fun and informative stop on the Internet. Over the years, funkyfresh has developed a community of readers from around the world that enjoy the eclectic mix of articles and product reviews provided by Rick and a variety of industry professionals that don't just write about this stuff but live and breath it everyday. Our contributors include producers, product managers, system architects, hardware and software engineers, consultants, analysts and other folks that work primarily in the technology and entertainment fields. The site remains pop-up free and advertising is unobtrusive. We promise that funkyfresh will remain fast, friendly and fun. We hope you enjoy your visit and keep it funky!
About Rick Spence
Rick Spence is a Detroit native raised in a big loving Italian and Polish family. His love of music and technology began early on when he started playing drums and anything else he could bang on in the basement of his home in Warren while bouncing tracks between boom boxes as a kid. Rick started funkyfresh while working for a number of high technology and media companies.
His technology background includes working as a senior product marketing engineer at a fortune 100 company and as an industry analyst for Gartner Group. He also was a technology journalist for the NBC affiliate in San Francisco and Silicon Valley.
Rick has regularly appeared live on a variety of networks including: ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, HGTV, CNNfN, CNET, TechTV, and others providing technology and stock analysis. Rick co-produced and hosted an internationally syndicated technology show for several years and was nominated for an Emmy award for his work as a tecnology reporter in 1996. Rick can be seen regularly on HGTV as the host of Curb Appeal. Curb Appeal continues to be one of the top rated shows on HGTV.
In additon to on camera duties, Rick is also an accomplished producer, writer and editor and runs a full service production company in Silicon Valley.
Rick enjoys working on projects that marry his love of music, technology, food, home and entertainment.
